Females, Bitches and Women – another why words/labels matter

Females – any living thing with the ability to reproduce. Flowers have female and male parts which create seeds that create more flowers. Those parts are science labeled. Science made a distinction so there’s a unification in labels and understanding of the function of those parts within an international scientific community. It’s the reason the names of animals and stuff are in some kind of Latin what not no matter if you’re talking to a scientist in Germany or in Japan.  So Female is mostly a scientific label. It means you have the ability to reproduce. You are mom, mother, uterus bearer. Dogs, cats, and yes, us mammals better known as human beings are and can be accurately labeled as female given one major principle – uterus and the born this way, natural ability to reproduce.

Female is not a bad word. It’s accurate. But what it can be is demeaning as this label applies to ANYTHING that is living and has the ability to reproduce. Female – you could be calling me ½ of a flowers reproductive system (and hey, a rose is still a rose right?) or you could be equating me with a whale or a cow, a lizard or a snake. So I can understand why there is some sensitivity around this word. It’s an ANIMAL label. Not exclusive to HUMAN BEINGS.

Bitches – if you look up the word, bitch is a female dog. If you’re a dog breeder, and you walk around talking about you’re pretty bitches or how many bitch puppies your favorite bitch had, hey, you’re talking about a dog. Congrats.

Bitch  as societal vernacular was originally meant as an insult. If a human female (not saying woman yet) is referred to as a bitch, there are several possibilities as to why. She dissed some guy trying to get at her and now he’s mad. Bitch. The woman is being mean or rude. Bitch. Perhaps even she’s being too aggressive and simply not taking in shit off anyone (all of which are relative to the particular situation and human female in question but still…) Bitch.

Since its days as an insult with some sting, now it’s just a word that depending on the context, usually has no bite to it. Human females that are friends may call each other bitch with no consequence. In greeting  each other “what’s up, bitch” or even when their friend has done something slightly mean or perhaps out of character “ugh, you bitch” or maybe just to add a little verbal oomph to something like “damn, you crazy bitch!” So now it’s “just a word” but like any word, it’s all about context.

Katt Williams once said in a joke something to the tune of “I’m only calling y’all bitches because I don’t know your names individually.”

It is funny, especially HOW he said it. But why bitches? Why not females? That would be more accurate as you do not know the personalities of the women to know rather they have ever been or at present, are bitches but you know based on anatomy of female humans that what you are seeing in the crowd are perceived to be human females. Hell, why not just women?

Bitch as a general label is really annoying. Hip hop culture has made this word cute, appealing, widely used as generalizations for women and of course, it’s more common or specific towards black women and there’s all the stereotypes that go with it and blah blah blah. I wont get into that here.

So

Women – human female. A female lion is a lioness. A female sheep I think is an ewe (might work for rams or goats, I don’t know) But only the female human is WOMAN.

Woman, I once heard in a little joke during church, is the name Adam gave Eve because when he saw her in all her beauty he said “Whoa, man!” and bam! Woman. Get um, girl! Lol

Now here’s the thing about woman. It’s also a kind of societal word. A woman does not “look” like a man. There are breasts and curves involved and typically this term is also linked to reproduction as a natural born this way ability. But (and please correct me if I’m wrong because all of this is off the top of my head) a man who completed all the necessary stuff to become a “woman” can now be identified as such, although, there is no reproductive value because that particular “woman” was born a man.

So what is a woman? Just breast, curves and hormones? (or at least two out of three, not all women are curvy)….

Here’s the point: as a woman, who is a natural born female with more than enough emotional and mental capacity to act like a bitch at times……The words are mostly what you make them, however, if you are going to speak about women, as in human females and by females I mean when you came out the womb you were female, then WOMAN  or WOMEN is the general term. Female just lumps us all together with animals. And fellas, unless there’s something you need to explain to your girl about your interspecies sex habits, you MIGHT want to stick to calling the ladies, WOMEN! Just saying.

As for the bitch thing, just use that word with caution. You never know who you might call a bitch and then get knocked out by a feminine hand, stronger than a man’s. Just saying. :)

Reblogging this for my cousin to read because I was explaining this to you on the phone and you made it seem like I was on some next shit.

Reblogging this because when I transferred schools, I heard the word “female” referring to women a lot more, and I always questioned it internally but never spoke up. “Female” always felt dehumanizing to me (even though it was never used towards me directly), but I guess I didn’t get offended enough and eventually forgot about it. Which sounds terrible, but I’m usually passive about things that don’t affect me directly. I dunno.
